Delete “Hello World” WordPress Post in 20 seconds

Setting up WordPress is pretty easy these days. Most blog hosts provide easy 1-Click-Installs for WordPress these days.

From start to finish, you can setup a whole website based on WordPress in less than an hour.

Once setup, there are a just a few more things you need to take care of before you can actually drop your first blog post.

The famous “Hello World” post is one of these things.

Whenever you set up WordPress, chances are that there is already one blog post (or draft) saved in your WordPress.

This post is usually called “Hello World.”

The purpose of this blog post is simply to show the user how an actual blog post looks like on the website.

Now, as soon as you are ready to go, you will want to get rid of that blog post, I would assume. And rightfully so.

How can I delete the “Hello World” Blog Post on my fresh WordPress installation?

To delete the “Hello World” blog post, all you need to do is to head over to “Posts and then to “All Posts” from within your WordPress dashboard. There, delete the “Hello World” post from the posts list by simply hovering over the Title “Hello World” and then selecting “Trash.”

 

Delete the “Hello World” blog post when switching themes

Chances are that at some point, you would like to install (a premium) custom theme rather than using the default WordPress theme.

Whenever you do that, you might also find a “Hello World” post on the front page of your website (homepage).

If that’s the case, please don’t worry.

To delete this post, the procedure is exactly the same as when you first set up WordPress.

So, all you would need to do is to g to Posts and then All Posts again and there hover over the “Hello World” post and then select “Trash.”

After that, make sure to visit the trash folder and delete the “Hello World” post from there once and for all.

“Hello World” posts are popular in custom themes because the developers of these themes want to showcase how posts look like on their theme.

And for that purpose, they often create this infamous “Hello World” blog post.

The “Hello World” phenomenon actually stems from the world of coding.

I remember when I first started to code at University (I later gave up because I literally had zero talent in it), one of the very first things I had to learn was how to make a program called hello.py and the goal was that this program would say (write) something when excecuted.

Guess what that text was?

Right, it was “Hello World”.

Oh, and I was really really proud when this text finally appeared on my screen. From there, it only went downhill with my coding career, though.

Nevermind.

How To Delete a “Sample Page“

In the same fashion as “Hello World” posts, sometimes you might also encounter a “Sample Page” when first setting up your WordPress or when changing WordPress theme.

If that should ever be the case, please stay calm. We will fix that in a few seconds, too.

To fix the problem, just head over to “Pages” and then select “All Pages”.

Now, all that is left for you to do is to hover over the page title (Sample Page) and then choose “Trash” again.

That’s all. Deleting a “sample page” is, therefore, almost similar to deleting a sample post. No surprises there.
