How to Change “just another WordPress website” Tagline

Setting up WordPress itself is pretty straightforward.

Still, to make everything work and to configure everything properly once WordPress is indeed set up, is not always that intuitive and sometimes it is difficult to locate the desired options and features, as there are just so many settings within WordPress.

For instance, once your WordPress website is up and running, one might find that the website tagline is still reading “just another WordPress website.

That’s probably NOT what you want. So how can you fix this?

How to change the “just another WordPress website” tagline?

To change the “just another WordPress website” tagline, click on “Settings” in your WordPress dashboard and then click on “General.” Now, where it says “Tagline,” adjust the tagline.

Adjusting the tagline on the initial server setup

Depending on your hosting, you will have the chance to adjust the tagline while actually setting up your new WordPress website.

If that is not the case, don’t worry. You can always change this tagline by going to “Settings,” then click on “General” and there under “Tagline”, change it to whatever you may like.

Make sure to keep the tagline as short as possible, as a long tagline might get truncated under certain circumstances. You don’t want that, do you ?

An alternative way to adjust your WordPress tagline

Instead of changing your WordPress website tagline going into “Settings” and then “General,” you can also adjust your tagline by going into the “Appearance” panel and then click on “Customize.”

All that is left for you to do at this point to adjust the tagline is to click on “Site Identity” and then just adjust the tagline to your liking. It’s that simple.

In case you do show the tagline in the header of your WordPress website, then the advantage of doing it that way is that you will immediately see how the new version of your tagline will appear in the header, as the appearance panel lets you see that right away (as well as any other changes you might apply to your layout).

Should I display the WordPress tagline in the header?

There is no real benefit in showing the WordPress tagline in the header of your website.

Some might argue that having the tagline in the header could have a beneficial effect on SEO.

I wouldn’t count on that, though.

The current standard for almost any established website is to NOT show the header’s tagline.

Just because you don’t show the tagline in the header, it doesn’t mean the tagline is not there.

Just make sure to set the tagline accordingly in the settings, and you are good to go.
